Rector of Saint-Petersburg State Pediatric Medical University
Dmitriy Olegovich Ivanov
MD, Chief neonatologist of the Ministry of health of Russia
Dmitry Olegovich Ivanov (born April 18, 1967, Leningrad, USSR) Since February 1, 2019, the rector (since November 20, 2015, acting rector) of the Saint Petersburg State Pediatric Medical University.
After graduating from high school in 1985, D. O. Ivanov entered the St. Petersburg State Pediatric Medical University, at that time — the Leningrad Pediatric Medical Institute. In 1991, he entered the residency and then post-graduate studies at the department of pediatrics of LPMI. D. O. Ivanov defended his PhD thesis "Features of vascular-platelet and coagulation hemostasis in newborns with severe perinatal pathology" in 1996. In 2002, he defended his doctoral dissertation entitled "Clinical and laboratory variants of sepsis in newborns".
From 2003 to 2009, D. O. Ivanov was an associate Professor at the department of pediatrics with courses in perinatology and endocrinology of the faculty of advanced training and professional training of the Saint Petersburg State Pediatric Medical Academy (SPSPMA). >>>
From February 2009 to 2015, he worked at the Institute of Perinatology and Pediatrics of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation as the director of the Institute, combining this work with the head of the department of children's diseases of the Institute of postgraduate education of Federal State Budgetary Institution “Almazov National Medical Research Centre” of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation.
Since November 2015, he is the head of the Saint Petersburg State Pediatric Medical University.
For the first time, he studied the features of vascular-platelet and coagulation hemostasis in newborns with severe perinatal pathology, depending on the conditions of intrauterine development. He was engaged in assessing the physiological norm of body systems indicators, diagnosing the level and severity of damage to regulatory mechanisms, evaluating the effectiveness of treatment and prognosis of neuropsychiatric development of the child. Led research on molecular and cellular mechanisms of the child's central nervous system functional development disorders in conditions of chronic and acute hypoxia. He developed biochemical and electrophysiological methods of early diagnosis and ways of a personalized approach to the treatment and prevention of the perinatal pathology consequences. He studied the genesis of perinatal microcirculation disorders and their role in the development of central nervous system, cardiovascular system and respiratory disorders in newborns with intrauterine development delay.
The theory of D. O. Ivanov and N.P. Shabalov on the heterogeneity of the systemic inflammatory response in children’s infectious pathology allowed to develop the concept of hypoergic and hyperergic clinical and laboratory variants of neonatal sepsis, as well as to improve approaches to the treatment of the systemic inflammatory response in hypoxic, septic and cardiogenic shocks.
D. O. Ivanov identified two variants of DIC-syndrome development in newborns with sepsis: decompensated and overcompensated, having examined children for 26 parameters of hemostasis.
He studied new forms of bronchopulmonary dysplasia and retinopathy of newborns. Developed the concept of heterogeneity of the children’s respiratory disorders syndrome. He proposed differentiated approaches to their diagnosis and treatment, which reduced the development of chronic non-specific lung diseases.
At the moment, D.O. Ivanov is studying the continuous remote catamnesis of children under 20 years old who suffered an extreme condition in the perinatal period. He develops and implements Federal protocols and standards for newborn care in clinical practice. Under his leadership, 4 dissertations for the degree of candidate of medical sciences were defended, and 5 candidates and 2 doctoral works are still being prepared.
D.O. Ivanov is the chief editor of the journal "The Pediatrician", deputy chief editor of "Children's medicine of North-West", member of editorial board of "Neonatology" and "Translational medicine", deputy chairman of scientific council on defense of candidate and doctoral theses at Federal State Budgetary Institution “Almazov National Medical Research Centre” of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation.
He holds the post of chief freelance specialist in neonatology of the Ministry of health of the Russian Federation. D.O. Ivanov has published more than 300 works on pediatrics, neonatology, and resuscitation, including 10 monographs.
He is a member of the St. Petersburg branch of the Russian pediatricians union, the European Association of perinatal medicine, and the Russian Association of perinatal medicine specialists.
