The conference on rehabilitation after COVID-19 gathered more than 3,500 participants
The online event took place on July 21. 3,760 participants from 25 countries completed the registration process. Presentations were made by leading specialists in the field of medical rehabilitation, practitioners who have serious experience in fighting infection.
Today the entire global medical community is united in the fight against COVID-19. As the number of people who have recovered increases, issues of rehabilitation of patients who have had the virus come to the fore. Dmitry Butko, co-chair of the conference, head of the Department of medical rehabilitation and sports medicine of SPbSPMU, reminded about the importance of sharing experience in this area.
The conference was organized by two universities: Sechenov University and Saint Petersburg Pediatric University, as well as the National medical research center for rehabilitation and balneology of the Ministry of health of the Russian Federation and the Federal scientific and clinical center for resuscitation and rehabilitation.
Participants discussed various aspects of coronavirus infection treatment, as well as issues of subsequent rehabilitation.
The report devoted to the problems of rehabilitation of patients with COVID-19 and associated neurological pathology, including cerebral stroke, aroused great interest. The main freelance specialists-neurologists of Saint Petersburg and the Northwestern Federal district Igor Voznyuk and Yevgeny Barantsevich, Professor Butko and the head of the center of neurology Viktor Shakhnovich took part in its preparation.
Acting director of the NMIC of rehabilitation and balneology Anatoly Fesyun and Professor Andrey Rachin thoroughly reviewed the organizational aspects of sanatorium treatment of patients who have suffered a coronavirus infection.
Yevgeny Achkasov, a Professor at Sechenov University, and Sergey Puzin, an academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences, analyzed the clinical recommendations and rehabilitation programs for COVID-19.
Chief freelance endocrinologist of the Ministry of health of the Moscow region Alexander Dreval spoke about the features of the infection course against the background of diabetes and the principles of rehabilitation of such patients. He especially emphasized the importance of physical activity for such patients.
During the conference, participants had the opportunity to comment on reports in an online chat and ask questions, which were promptly answered by the speakers.
